Application: Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies External Speaker (CLALSES) Series

CLALSES
Call for Applications 2025-2026
Deadline: May 19, 2025

The Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies External Speaker (CLALSES) Series invites distinguished scholars to the Penn campus to guest lecture in CLALS cross-listed classes. The series aims to foster dialogue and possibilities for collaborative research between Penn faculty and scholars from across the Americas, as well as bring additional expertise to campus to foment our students’ intellectual study of Latin American and Latinx cultures.

CLALS will be awarding a limited number of CLALSES series grants to cover the costs of hosting an in-person or virtual guest speaker in your class. Up to $2250 will be awarded to bring domestic guests and up to $3250 will be awarded for international guests.

All Penn faculty teaching Latin American and Latinx Studies content are eligible to apply. Please note that your course must have at least 30% content pertaining to Latin American and Latinx Studies, and should be cross-listed and/or tagged with one of the LALS course attributes to be eligible for this grant. If you haven’t yet cross-listed your course for Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 and would like to do so, please contact our Associate Director, Catherine Bartch, at bartch@sas.upenn.edu.

CLALSES grants are designed to bring relevant guest speakers to classes. If you are interested in hosting a public facing event for a wider audience, please let us know by applying for a CLALS co-sponsorship

The online application for CLALSES will ask you for:

  • Information about your guest speaker
  • Bio of guest speaker
  • Website of guest speaker (if applicable)
  • Potential dates of guest lecture
  • Proposed budget of expenses

If you have any questions, please contact clals-upenn@sas.upenn.edu. Thank you very much, and we look forward to receiving your applications and to continuing to support your teaching for CLALS!
