CLALSES
Call for Applications 2025-2026
Deadline: Spring 2025 (TBD)
The Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies External Speaker (CLALSES) Series invites distinguished scholars to the Penn campus, some of whom will lecture with CLALS cross-listed classes, to expand and deepen our intellectual understanding of Latin America and Latinos across disciplines. It also aims to foster dialogue and possibilities for collaborative research between Penn faculty and scholars from across the Americas.
CLALS will be awarding at least eight (CLALSES) series grants in the amount of up to $1,500 each, to cover the costs of hosting an in-person or virtual course speaker/guest, preferably in one of our Latin American and Latinx Studies cross-listed courses to be taught in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
Penn faculty teaching Latin American and Latinx Studies content are eligible to apply. Please note that the cross-listing of your course with CLALS is required to be eligible for this grant. If you haven’t yet cross-listed your course for Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 and would like to do so, please contact our Associate Director, Catherine Bartch, at clals-upenn@sas.upenn.edu. Also, please note that if we receive many more applications than the number of grants we can allocate, we will prioritize applications from CLALS-affiliated Assistant Professors.
The online application will ask you for:
- Information about your guest speaker
- CV or bio of guest speaker
- Website of guest speaker (if applicable)
- Potential dates and times of guest lecture
- Proposed budget of expenses
If you have any questions, please contact clals-upenn@sas.upenn.edu. Thank you very much, and we look forward to receiving your applications and to continuing to support your teaching for CLALS!
The online application portal will be posted in Spring 2025.
