Amanda Wessel

B.A. Spanish and Geology, Bryn Mawr College (2020)

Amanda Wessel is from Takoma Park, Maryland. She came to the Philadelphia area by way of Bryn Mawr College, where she completed undergraduate degrees in Spanish and Geology. In college, she studied abroad in Valparaiso, Chile where she studied sociopolitical history of Latin America and contemporary Chilean literature. Before coming to CLALS, she spent two years working in public health research on maternal health equity at Temple University and a year in Atlanta working at the ACLU of Georgia on voting rights access through a fellowship with Quaker Voluntary Service. She is interested in the intersection of earth science, literature, and Latin American history and politics. She also enjoys guiding backpacking trips with young people and giving people’s history tours of Philadelphia. She loves to cook, share meals with friends, and do crossword puzzles.
