Michael C. Johanek

Michael Johanek prepares educators to lead schools, districts, and other K12 organizations, toward becoming key voices in education. As director of Penn GSE’s Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership and its network initiatives, Johanek works with principals, headmasters, superintendents, non-profit leaders, and government officials from around the world. He is an expert on the challenges facing school leaders, and strategies for overcoming them. Johanek also heads the Red Interamericana de Liderazgo Educacional (Inter-American Educational Leadership Network), which brings together educators from across the Western Hemisphere, and the Penn Educational Leadership Simulations Project. A published historian, he recently completed a book on school choice, and is investigating a Chicago neighborhood organization active in school reform there over the last four decades.
