In collaboration with the Urban Studies and Socio-environmental laboratory of the Pontifical and Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and the Center for Latin American and Latinxs Studies at Penn, we receive Prof. Julie-Anne Boudreau for a conference on the thematic of « City of Reparation: Transforming the City of Mexico in chaotic times.» Organized by Anne-Marie Veillette (postdoc at the CLALS and Center for Africana Studies), this conference looks at different urban transformation processes from various recent events in Mexico City: the 2017 earthquake, Covid-19, and the feminist marches since 2019. Julie-Anne Boudreau is currently a researcher at the Institute of Geography at the UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) and the director of the research project TRYSPACES: Transformative Youth Spaces, based in Montreal, Mexico, Hanoi, and Paris.
 
The discussion will happen in Spanish and Portuguese, and students in Rio are welcome to ask questions and talk in Portuguese or Spanish. Julie-Anne Boudreau es Investigadora Titular “B” en el Instituto de Geografía de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Es directora del grupo de investigación TRYSPACES: Jóvenes y espacios de transformación. Su trabajo se ha desarrollado fundamentalmente en las áreas de Geografía Humana y Sociología Urbana. Trabaja con jóvenes explorando sus prácticas callejeras. Se dedica a la investigación colaborativa con impacto social, explorando cómo la ciudad tiene influencia en la formación de subjetividades políticas y prácticas ciudadanas. Su último libro es "Youth Urban Worlds: Aesthetic Political Action in Montreal", Wiley, 2021. She will present her current research with youth in Mexico City.
