A talk by John Morris, PhD, Director (Retired) of Belize Institute of Archaeology, National Institute of Culture and History
Archaeology and heritage management have had a conjoined existence in Belize since the 1960s. Archaeological research and its concomitant narratives have tremendously influenced national policy on heritage management and museum development in Belize. This talk will demonstrate the successes, failures, and current challenges that face Belizean archaeology as it tries to balance economic realities of nation building (tourism), national cultural policies, and sustainable heritage management.
