Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies Congratulations to the following LALS Affiliated Professors for winning prestigious awards and grants for their groundbreaking work!
These professors have been awarded the Making a Difference in Diverse Communities Grant by the Penn Arts & Sciences for their innovative projects in addressing diversity and inequality in Latin America and the world.
Jere Behrman, William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Economics for Cognitive Decline with Aging in Diverse Chilean Communities and in Comparison with Mexico and the U.S. This is led by Irma, Elo, Professor of Sociology, and Dr. Behrman co-directs it with faculty from Penn Nursin and the Perelman School of Medicine. Professor Jere Behrman also co-directs Understanding the Effects of Mexico's Prospera Program on Reducing Inequalities in Schooling and Academic Achievements. This project is led by Petra Todd, Edmund J. and Louise Kahn Term Professor of Economics.
Michael Hanchard, Professor of Africana Studies leads Memory and Identity in Afro-Brazilian Archives, along with Melissa Teixeira, Assistant Professor of History and Roquinaldo Ferreira, Henry Charles Lea Professor of History.
Michael Weisberg, Professor of Philosophy, leads Community Partnerships in the Galápagos Archipelago; this project supports the Galápagos Education and Research Alliance (GERA).
