A talk with Dr. Beatriz Cortéz

The purpose of this event is to bring together students to learn more about art created by Central American artists, and more specifically, artwork based on the Salvadorian Civil War and how it can be used in today's activism. This event will provide an opportunity for students to gain a better understanding of topics that often are forgotten in discussions around Central America and bring perspectives from Central American scholars based in the United States and abroad.

Dr. Beatriz Cortéz holds a Ph.D in Latin American Literature from Arizona State University and she has also earned an M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts. Dr. Cortéz currently teaches in the Central American Studies department at California State University, Northridge. Her work explores "simultaneity, life in different temporalities and different versions of modernity, particularly in relation to memory and loss in the aftermath of war and the experience of migration."
