We are so pleased to welcome Romina Garber, author of Lobizona, to Penn in April for a lunchtime book talk event with Penn students, staff, and faculty.
Lobizona is a YA fantasy novel that, along with its sequel Cazadora, centers on an undocumented Latina protagonist navigating the politics of belonging and acceptance in both the U.S. and her home culture in Argentina. It was recently selected by St. Paul, Minnesota as their “Read Brave” citywide book club pick.
Besides providing readers a sense of the lived experience of undocumented youth in the U.S., Lobizona highlights both migration violence and gender oppression across the Americas as interconnected colonial legacies, and — in representing an Argentine undocumented protagonist — does important work in expanding often narrow conceptions of Latinidad and Latine immigrants.
