“The Brazilian Landless Movement: Agroecology.” Hosted by Associate Director, Manuel A. Roman-Lacayo, Ph.D. of the University of Pittsburgh, Center for Latin American Studies –and Marleen Linares-González, Lenny Ureña Valerio of the University of New Mexico, Latin American and Iberian Institute.

  • An examination and discussion of the Brazilian Landless Movement (MST) cooperative in the South of Brazil. MST struggled for access to land and then transitioned to ecological agriculture, or agroecology. This cooperative demonstrates the possibility of an alternative model of flourishing rural life, providing thriving livelihoods for farmers, producing high quality and low cost food for the region, and rehabilitating the earth. 
  • Guest speaker: Andreas Hernandez and their film: "Soil, Struggle and Justice".
