The 2024-2025 Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies Undergraduate Research Grants

The 2024-2025 CLALS Undergraduate Research Grants are intended to provide undergraduate students in the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) and at the University of Pennsylvania with the opportunity to deepen their interdisciplinary interests in Latin America and Latinx Studies. Students may request funding for a variety of research-related expenses including:

  • travel costs to conduct field, archival, or library research;
  • data-related costs, including software, IRB subject incentives, transcription, etc;
  • conference registration or travel fees;
  • and other research-related expenditures

Awards will generally be distributed in the range of $250 - $500 via the NON-PO payment system, depending on applications and funding at the time of award distribution. LALS Minors may receive up to $250; LALS Majors may receive up to $500.

Please submit a 1-2 page proposal in PDF format and upload it below in this Qualtrics form.  The proposal should include the following:

1. A description of your research project

2. The amount requested

3. How the funds will advance your research

4. Names of faculty that are advising and/or aware of your research

5. Detailed budget, including other applications you have submitted for funding 

The application is open to Penn undergraduate students without citizenship or visa requirements. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed every two weeks.

Grantees will be invited to present their findings at a special Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies Internal Speaker (CLALSIS) Series event during the 2024-2025 academic year.
