The José Miguel Oviedo Undergraduate Student Paper Award is given annually to the best paper in Latin American and Latinx Studies written by an undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania. The prize honors the scholarly tradition of a recognized critic of Latin American literature and Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at Penn.
Submissions for the 2025 Award are now closed. The winner will be announced later this spring.
The submission must be a single-authored paper (or an excerpt of a more extended project) no longer than 9,000 words including bibliography, written while the student is in an undergraduate program at Penn. Papers can be written in English or Spanish. If you have further questions about a paper written in a different language, please email us at clals-upenn@sas.upenn.edu.
The prize, including a cash award, will be announced in April. If you have any questions, please reach out to clals-upenn@sas.upenn.edu.
